【Biography of Cocorotsu’s owner, Rena Takahashi】

I was born in Tokyo.

Graduate from Tokyo University of Agriculture.

My research subject in my university lab was" Biology of epiphytic fern in mangrove forests across Thailand”.

Usually typical Japanese university girls care about their appearance and dress up smartly, but in contrast to them,

I wore Japanese tabi socks and brought high branch pruning scissors for my research in Thailand.

Through this research, I was connected to various local living creatures I’ve never seen before.

This precious experience grabbed my heart and lasted as an unforgettable memory.

In 2004, my mind was made up to engage in creating job and I had just kept drawing illustrations for 6 months

and then started my job hunting.

I got my position at an educational materials company for kindergartens and nurseries.

I was assigned to a product planning department dealing with play house goods, entering kindergarten goods and emergency supplies for kids.

In the spring of 2011, a life-changing experience has occurred to me. Visiting an exhibition, [TSUTSUMU-Traditional Japanese Packaging] in Meguro made a big impact on me. *TSUTSUMU in Japanese means Wrapping and packaging

I felt sudden surge of my desire to create something to “Wrap [other’s/our] heart”, not mass production things, but hearty and thoughtful objects piece by piece!

First thing I stepped into action was attending a clay workshop in the summer of 2012, which gave me inspiration

that I should engage something creating and making others feel happy and joyful.

It took me a while before I found my answer that I should be the one to create accessories which make others/people realize happiness and joy within themselves.

In 2013, my brand “Cocorotsu” was born for everyone who wants to feel truly happy through your whole life!

In December of the year, “Nature Trip Series” which has a motif of unique creatures in the worlds was introduced.

My passion is affecting your lives to be more  exciting by wearing Cocorotsu accessories,

carry all my impressed experiences and new findings through my traveling on the earth.

cocorotsu(ココロツ)をはじめる最初のきっかけとなりました。

【How cocorotsu started?】

Visiting an exhibition, [TSUTSUMU-Traditional Japanese Packaging] in Meguro in spring of 2011 motivated me to launch cocorotsu. *TSUTSUMU in Japanese means Wrapping and packaging.

Packaging was corected by Hideyuki Oka(1905-1995), a graphic designer,

Packaging and containers for foods, sweets and so on.

Utilizing natural materials developed by each regional culture with old-fashioned techniques were displayed.

The displayed Japanese traditional packaging were completely different from what we see at supermarkets nowadays.and had full of wisdom from Japanese life styles with artisanal and functional design.

The shape were simple and beautiful without any extra and made of only natural material.

The beautiful figure conjured up an image of traditional crafts to me.

I was shocked and moved by the time-tasted packaging which was completely different from today's mass produced ones with advertising design, just focusing on stimulating consumption behavior to us.

Also I felt “beauty” not only from the appearance, but also "Someone's heart” wrapped in the packaging.

“The hearts” come from someone who created, wrapped, sent and also the one toward objects.?

Japanese culture, thinking and caring about others and wrapping intangible souls and minds,

is just great to me and my mind followed the inspiration that I should create something wrapping our hearts and putting my soul, and not mass producing. This vibration motivated me to start cocorotsu.

I have kept asking myself  for about a year and half what is “Something” to wrap up our hearts and “what kind of hearts” I want to wrap? Finally it emerged  to me that I am willing to create accessories to make our lives more exciting and happier with a playful imagination.

My mind was made up to start Cocorotsu.

I am hoping Cocorotsu to be a spice for your life.
